Statistical Citizenship

A piece for Daniel Tucker’s Organize Your Own project - a meditation on self-determination and community organizing. What does it mean to “organize Your own?” Visitor Survey asks the viewer to use the formats of demographic and market segmentation (a series of categories taken from the US Census, National Institute of Health, and American Consumer surveys) to imagine ways of identifying kinship, solidarity, and vulnerability. And, conversely, to feel the way these categories are insufficient. Experienced as an individual, the piece asks the viewer to take the time to imagine their demographic membership as a political category. Over time the piece fills up with responses and produces a "group portrait” of political identification.
